Summer Nature Club at Kountze Public Library This summers nature club will run every Tuesday in July at 10 AM. Nature club will be a conservation education experience presented by Texas Master Naturalists and Big Thicket Park Rangers with crafts, games, stories, and more.
Neches River Rally Join the Big Thicket Association for our annual family-friendly kayak and canoe event! The 4.0 mile Cooks Lake Paddling Trail provides a great opportunity to experience the biological diversity of the Big Thicket National Preserve. This seemingly short trail can actually become an all-day adventure as Cooks Lake and Scatterman Lake are both fun to explore. Welcome to the city of Kountze, Texas. Kountze was originally established as a railroad town in 1881. Kountze holds an area of more than 89% forested lush green terrain. Residents describe Kountze as ” The Big Light in the Big Thicket”. Kountze is home to 25 miles of impenetrable woods, streams, and marshes known as the Big Thicket National Preserve. In 1991, Kountze became the first American city with a Muslim mayor, an African American named Charles Bilal. Explore Kountze for yourself!
