Auditions – Driving Miss Daisy

AUDITIONS for “Driving Miss Daisy” by Alfred Uhry and directed by John Manfredi will be held Monday and Tuesday, December 2nd and 3rd beginning at 7pm at Beaumont Community Players located at 4155 Laurel Ave in Beaumont, TX.


Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, December 4th IF NEEDED.

The audition is open to ALL. NO PARTS have been pre-cast.

Please come prepared to read the scene and monologue.
They DO NOT have to be memorized.
Hard copies will be available at the audition and are also at the box office in advance.

About the play:
This Pulitzer Prize winner by Alred Uhry begins when Daisy Werthan causes a car wreck, and her son hires chauffeur Hoke Colburn to look after her. What starts as a battle of wills between a stubborn Jewish matriarch and a proud black man evolves into a decades-long friendship as the two navigate Civil Rights-era Atlanta

1F/2M (These characters stretch in age and the stated ages are not the actor ages. The actors that originated these roles were in their 40’s so don’t think you’re too young.)

DAISY – A Jewish widow, native to Atlanta, Georgia. She is 72 years old in 1948 at the beginning of the play, and 97 years old in 1973 at the end of the play. CAUCASIAN

HOKE – Married man native to Georgia. He is 60 years old in 1948 at the beginning of the play and 85 years old in 1983 at the end of the play. AFRICAN-AMERICAN

BOOLIE – Daisy’s son. Also born and raised in Atlanta. He is 40 years old in 1948 at the beginning of the play and 65 years old at the show’s end in 1973. CAUCASIAN
